Activist detained for "celebrating with a glass in hand" 3 days after Fidel's death

At 7:30 p.m. on Monday, 28 November, Eduardo Pacheco Ortiz was at the front door of his house saying goodbye to the only activist of his Movement Recuperación Democrática that was able to arrive to participate in the monthly meeting of the Movement. Suddenly, he received a forceful blow to his face. When Sayma Lamas Barzola, his spouse, came out from the house, Pacheco Ortiz had a face full of blood. Immediately, the political police officer Yulién Villamir Álvarez, who was guarding the house, took him to the police station. On Tuesday 29, in the morning, his wife appeared in the Police Station of Cardenas and the officer known as El Delegado informed her that Eduardo Pacheco was being accused of "disobedience". The false accusation was made (according to El Delegado) because Pacheco was celebrating with a glass of drink in hand (Fidel Castro died 3 days before and the country was supposed to be mourning). Sayma Lamas was able to talk with the doctor who attended Eduardo at the Hospital de Cárdenas who informed her that he had a fractured nasal septum that requires surgery. Until this moment (December 5, 2016), Eduardo remains in detention and his family is not allowed to see him.
