Peasant has been victim of attacks by the DSE because of his closeness to activists

Peasant Juan Carlos Martínez Marzo was detained, when working on his farm, by Captain Midelsi Durán Campo of the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) and Major Antonio Rodríguez of the State Secutiry Department (DSE). The reason for the arrest was because the latter supposedly had links with the activist Francisco Luis Manzanet Ortiz. The DSE accused this peasant of being the one who kept the activist's work equipment, such as computers, telephones, office materials, printed matter and literature, among others. After spending 48 hours in detention under all kinds of threats from the DSE, Mr. Martínez was released after being officially warned that his farm would be confiscated if he continued to have links with counter-revolutionaries in the municipality. He was also threatened that he would be prosecuted for complicity, and was advised to think carefully of his family who would suffer when he was in prison. On previous occasions, this peasant was also a victim of imprisonment by the DSE because he supposedly wanted to go to the Guantánamo Base.
