On May 11, Miguel Varona Serret, who is an audiovisual worker, was filming around Parque 24 de Febrero (located on Ramón Pintó Street between Calixto García and Los Maceo, in front of the Police Unit of the same name) when two police officers approached Miguel and took him to the Police Unit. There, Officers Victor de Enfrentamiento of the State Security and Yunior, of the Counter Intelligence of the 24th Park showed up. Both officers intimidated Miguel by telling him that he was about to be taken to prison for the alleged crime of espionage, because he had recorded images of a police unit. Miguel Varona responded that he was recording in a public place while other people were also taking pictures. The officers indicated that they knew what Miguel was doing. He was detained for several hours and released at 2pm the same day, the officers took his audiovisual equipment and it was not returned to him. The victim was robbed of a Sony model 6400 camera, two camera lenses, a tripod, a field monitor and a backpack, all with a total value of US$2300.
