On 4th June 2018, the activist José Ángel Sambrano García was arrested after he shouted anti-government slogans in the vicinity of a police station from which the unit was called to arrest him. The activist was arrested and taken to the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) unit where he remained for more than 72 hours until he was released in the afternoon the next day. Before his release, an official warning was issued for public outrage and he was fined $500 Cuban pesos (£16) for the same offence. The defender was threatened by the head of Baracoa's Department of State Security (DSE) Lieutenant Coronel Liesner Leiva, who told him that he already had an open file, that was "very big" and was ready to be sent to the prosecutor's office for the process that was going to send him straight to the combinado (a detention center) for a long time.
