UNPACU activist detained and beaten up due to her intention to apply for political asylum



On 20 October 2020, an activist from the Cuban Patriotic Union (UNPACU), Ana Iris Miranda Leyva, was violently arbitrary detained in the municipality of Calixto García in the Holguín Province. Ana Iris was heading to Havana in order to apply for political asylum at any embassy. During several hours in detention, she was being beaten up, including her family members and children. She was also stolen by force all her money - 605 CUC and 5000 CUP. The action was carried out by the Head of the Confrontation Unit in Holguín Lieutenant Colonel Alejandro. After several hours of beating and mistreatment, Ana Iris was taken home by force by State Security officials and police.
