At 8:10 am, an independent lawyer and human rights defender, Rigoberto González Vigoa, disappeared for more than 30 hours.
Rigoberto and human rights defenders Daudy Hermelo Lago and Calixto Miranda Landeiro were going to attend a human rights training. When they were passing through Alameda Avenue, they were stopped by two Security officials in a red Lada car. They came to Rigoberto and quickly put him into the car. Nobody knew, where Rigoberto was driven. Many other activists were detained as they were going to the police station, insisting on getting the information where Rigoberto was. The same happened to his wife, when asked the police for this information. Moreover, she told the other activists, that few days before Rigoberto disappeared, State Security Juan Pérez official had come to their house, prohibiting his husband from leaving the house. Later on, Calixto found out, what had happened to Rigoberto. After having been put into the patrol car, he was taken to the police station in Pinar del Río. The officials confiscated him all his things and put him into the prison cell No. 18. As a detainee, he had the right to be informed about the reason of the detention and his family should have been informed about it. Rigoberto was treated badly during the detention. He was kept in a very dirty cell without even a bed. All the time the officials were refusing to inform his family. He was conditionally released after having spent two days in the cell. State Security official Juan Pérez threatened him, that next time he would not be so lucky.
