On March 29, 2016, a human rights defensor and journalist Carlos Alberto Rodríguez Seruto, along with his two friends, was going back from Pinar del Río where he participated in several activities related to his job. Carlos was detained on the bridge near Los Palacios, located on Pinar-Havana Highway. The detention was instructed by State Security Chief in Los Palacios Major Lazo and Police Chief Mayor Valdemiro. He was driven to the Police Department and was kept in a cell for 24 hours. During that time, he was mistreated and accused of disobedience and distributing enemy propaganda in Pinar del Río. In fact he distributed documents related to Forum for Rights and Freedoms and Tele Martí records. Before he was released, he was threatened that if he wanted to keep distributing the documents and records in the streets, he would be prosecuted. Moreover, he was prohibited to move freely in Cuba.
