On March 29, 2016 at 6:30, a human rights defensor and journalist Maikel Norton Cordero, along with his two friends, was going back from Pinar del Río, where they participated in several events related to their job. He was detained on a bridge located on Pinar-Havana Highway. The detention was instructed by the Chief of the State Security, Major Valdemiro. Maikel was driven to the Police Department where he was detained for 24 hours. During that time, he was treated very badly and he was also accused of desobedience and distrubuting documents related to Forum for Rights and Freedoms and Tele Martí records. Maikel was released with and official warning. Moreover, he was threatened that if he wanted to continue with counterrevolutionary activities, he would be processed and sentenced at least to 20 years of imprisonment.
