At 6 am, Yeider Fuentes Áreas was about to attend Mass in the Santuario del Cobre in Santiago de Cuba, which was being conducted to demand the release of political prisoners and to protest against police oppression.
He was detained by police and State Security official Cantillo while passing through the military checkpoint in Cayamo. He was taken to the Police Department in Caimanera. He was threatened by State Security official Montalvo with going to the prison. He was released that same day at 10 am.
