Human rights defender detained on the street and accused of disobedience

Niober García Fournier was detained by the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) and State Security (DSE) officials when he was passing through the 2 Sur Street, between Máximo Gómez and José Martí. He was put in a patrol car no. 612 and taken to the State Security detention center known as Operations. Later on, his house was searched (so called allanamiento) and the officials confiscated him: a laptop, a digital camera, two smart phones - his personal one and the other one they found in his house, four USB sticks, a 1TB removable disc and 300 pesos in the national currency (CUP). After that, they told him that the reason for the confiscation was that he was not able to prove his property over these items. He was issued an official warning for disobedience. They also told him that if such items were found again at his place without any document proving his property, he would be put in jail for one year. They also warned him that the video reports, he was recording on the streets, could cause him serious problems. He was released at about 7 pm on the same day.
