Human rights defender detained by the State Security and threatened with imprisonment

On 22 January 2019, Rolando Rodríguez Lobaina was detained by the police forces in cooperation with the State Security (DSE) in the Jesús Menéndez Quarter in the municipality of Bayamo, Granma Province. He was then transported to La Yaya in the municipality of Niceto Pérez, Guantánamo Province. In the unit, he was interrogated by DSE officials known as Sergio and Kevin or Jefferson. The officials told him that he was in serious troubles because of maintaining contact with terrorists who want to attack tourist attractions. They also told him that he was creating terrorist groups to carry out subversive actions against the government. Rolando was threatened with imprisonment since, according to the officials, his case had been already opened based on an accusation of public disorder. He was released at about 1 am on 25 January and banned from leaving his province.
