A journalist from Camagüey summoned to the State Security due to an alleged crime of assault

Geovanis Cepúlveda Martínez, a human rights activist and a journalist from the Palenque Vision Agency, was summoned on 30 August 2021 to the State Security (DSE) of the 3rd Police Unit in the Camagüey Province. There he was interrogated by Major Miranda who introduced himself as the head of the unit. The official told him that he was summoned in order to provide a new declaration regarding the accusation from an assault which happened in May. On that occasion, Geovanis had been returning from a birthday celebration with various activists. The police had violently detained him, beating him over his whole body and his head. Then he had been taken to the 3rd Police Unit. From there he had been released with a precautionary measure of house arrest until the date of the trial. The official informed him that he was a new instructor and would like to treat him fairly. The new declaration should be used during the trial.
