An UNPACU activist from Baracoa detained by State Security and threatened with imprisonment



On 10 December 2020, an activist from the Cuban Patriotic Union (UNPACU), Justo Elias Franco Jiménez, was detained nearby the neighborhood he lives in by State Security officials Captain Midelsi Durán Campo and First Lieutenant Anael Hernández. According to the officials, the activist was allegedly distributing leaflets consisting of a call to the population to disown the regime and a call to youth to join the UNPACU. After the detention, the activist was taken to the police station in Baracoa in El Turey neighborhood. There the officials told him that those activities are considered as a provocation and threatened him with imprisonment for more than 10 years. Franco Jiménez was kept in detention for 72 hours. He was released at 12 pm on 12 December.
