Beaten by the police for not wanting to give the password to his telephone

An independent lawyer and defender of human rights, José Ernesto Morales entered onto Rafael Morales Street, in Pinar del Rio, when he was arbitrarily detained by two police officers who seized him and took him to the Pinar del Rio police station in a patrol car. There, he had to wait two hours to meet an official known as Mano de Hierro (Iron Hand) who locked himself into an office with Morales. The official ordered him to unlock his phone, but Morales ignored him. As consequence, the official hit him twice in the head. Later, eight police officers arrived who surrounded the defender and ordered to take him to jail. Five minutes later, Major Juan Pérez, the head of State Security, appeared in the office, ordering Mano de Hierro to open a record of pre-crime social dangerousness, for being unemployed, and for being a defender of human rights not legalized by the state. The lawyer was told that he should be prepared, after that moment neither he nor his family would live in peace if he would go home every day. He was released after four hours with a warning notification and a fine for public disorder.
