Victim detained, fined and threatened for carrying out her work



Gisela Padin Perera is self-employed and an activist for the self-employed union. On April 6th, while she was working near the Pepe Portilla Pediactric Provincial Hospital, where she has been working for more than 5 years, she was detained by to police officers from the 109-patrol. She was detained without any justification, she showed her seller's license which was removed from her possession. The woman angrily yelled out they had no right to treat her like this after which she was detained and taken to a police station. Her husband came to her defense and said that her work was legal, after which he was taken away as well. Once she was taken to the Pinar del Rio Municipal Police Unit, she was fined 700 CUP (28 euros) and was threatened with having her patent taken away if she sells in the same location again.
