Yasmary Pérez, mother of sick child, is evicted

On the 19th of June, 2017, the Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, published his article about the positive situation of human rights in Cuba. On the same day in the province of Pinar del Rio, there was an injustice committed and violation of fundamental rights of the family of Yasmary Pérez. Yasmary, the mother of a nine-month-old baby born with a fatal birth defect, had to leave their house because of the extremely poor conditions. Because of claims from human rights defenders, the regional government came to the house and the president of that government stated that the poor conditions of the home could be resolved within 15 days. Because of this lie, Yasmary, her child, and her family left to find shelter elsewhere. They found a school nearby and the personnel was hospitable enough to let them in. This provoked indignation from the government, witnessing to the installation of the municipal director of education with the administrator. The employees were fired for allowing Yasmary to enter. Yasmary addressed the municipal government, supported by four independent lawyers and human rights defenders, who, at the request of the family and neighbors, were informed of the injustice that was committed. In the government, Yasmary and her family were let in, but the lawyers were expelled and remained outside until the situation of the family in question was resolved.
