An activist Luis Bello Gonzales was on his way to Santiago de Cuba Province to attend Mass at the Catholic Church of the Santuario del Cobre. The Mass was being conducted to demand the release of political prisoners and the end of police oppression. At 6 am, when he was passing through the checkpoint in Caimanera, he was detained by State Securiry officials Lt. Col. Cantillo and Montalvo and the checkpoint police. He was driven to the Police Department in Caimanera where he was kept until 9. He was threatened with imprisonment in case he continued his activities in UNPACU.
