DSE releases a woman's abuser in retaliation for her community activities

A 29-year-old citizen was the victim of death threats from the father of her children, Ariel Gainza Mosqueda, who came at her with a machete and in front of her underage children threatened to cut off her head because, according to him, she was cheating on him with another man. The citizen went to accuse him of threats the next day and said she was going to file for divorce, but the accusation was not successful because her husband's father is an informant for the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) and promised the police that he would get Mr. Ariel out of the house, a promise that was not fulfilled because as soon as Mr. Gainza was released he went to his wife's house. The next day, the victim returned to the PNR unit to inform the police that the father of her children had returned home to create problems and that if anything happened it would be the responsibility of those who had released him and that the world would learn that the police were to blame for releasing a man who had threatened to kill a woman with a machete. She also told them that they were not taking any action to prevent it simply because they were their informants. According to the victim, the Department of State Security (DSE) is responsible for the release of this man, who was not even detained for 48 hours even though by law he should have been detained for 72 hours or more. She claims that this action is a retaliation by DSE for the support she gave to the independent library staff José Lezama Lima during the time she was working in this community.
