An UNPACU activist detained and beaten by State Security in Guantánamo



On 23 September 2021, at 8 am, Bartolo Cantillo Romero, an activist from the Cuban Patriotic Union (UNPACU), was on his way to the prosecutor's office in the Guantánamo Province in order to submit a personal document. When passing through Los Maceos and El 3 Sur Street, he was detained by several State Security officials. They prevented him from continuing his way and obliged him to accompany them to the police unit Parque 24. There the activist was fined 2000 pesos. Moreover, the officials beat him up and threatened him with imprisonment. Several hours later, he was driven home. However, he could not leave his house after that as several officials stayed in front of the house until 7 pm.
