On July 11, 2021, in San José de Las Alajas, writer María Cristina Garrido Rodríguez was arrested for demonstrating in favor of her rights. She was charged with the alleged crimes of assault, contempt, resistance, public disorder, organization to commit a crime and for striking an officer in the back. The prosecution requested 12 years of imprisonment, and despite the contradictions presented during the trial by the police officers, the writer was sentenced to 7 years in prison.
