An activist from Baracoa detained and interrogated by State Security for more than 24 hours

On 26 January 2021, an activist from the Cuban Patriotic Union (UNPACU), Maikel Navarro Suárez, was a victim of arbitrary detention carried out by Major Bryan Torres along with two more officials from the special forces. The reason for the detention was, that Navarro Suárez told one of the members of the Boinas Rojas Unit that he should respect his rights as a Cuban citizen since they always treat the population as if they were animals. After the detention, he was driven to the National Revolutionary Police Unit (PNR) where he was kept for more than 24 hours. During that period, he was under a heavy interrogation led by State Security official and chief of the Confrontation Unit, Major Alfredo Oliveros.
