In the afternoon, 26 January 2021, an activist from the Cuban Patriotic Union (UNPACU), Osvaldo Álvarez Abad, was a victim of psychological mistreatment committed by National Revolutionary Police officer (PNR), Captain Gianny Rodríguez Clape. The official accused the activist of being responsible for distribution of leaflets to a number of households in Baracoa. Moreover, he told him that he wrongly parked his bike taxi and if he did not remove it, he would be detained and taken to the prison. The activist immediately replied that if he parked wrongly, the other pedicab drivers did as well. Also, he added that he was not afraid of being detained since he had not committed any crime. Other pedicab drivers standing nearby defended their colleague and told the Captain, that if he detained Osvaldo, he would have to detain them all since he had not committed any crime nor parked wrongly.
