Freedom of movement violated for peaceful opponents

State Security and National Revolutionary Police of Sagua de Tánamo, in combination with paramilitary groups and quick response brigades, established a strict surveillance on the surroundings of the homes of dissidents Alfredo Álvarez Leyva and Widhner Jordani Ballester Cortez, the latter, an independent lawyer. The repressors began surveillance on the afternoon of April 30th until approximately 10:00 in the morning on May 1st, with the motivation to prevent them from attending a political event in the civic square of Sagua de Tánamo, for the International Worker's Day. Alfredo was threatened that if the activists tried to leave the area, they would be arrested and held for several hours in jail cells.
