On 19 March 2021, Nelson Rodríguez Romero was visited by police along with a house inspector and the chief of the local Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR). The goal was to prevent Rodríguez Romero from providing testimony and expressing criticism to independent journalists about his problematic living conditions and a related state inaction. During the visit, Rodríguez Romero was mistreated and threatened by sector police chief known as Clape. The official threatened him that by saying that, he would make his situation even worse and moreover, he would end up in prison since “his business with repairing tires was illegal”.
