Independent journalist detained for conducting a public campaign



Human rights defender and delegate of the Latin American Federation of Rural Women of the province of Pinar del Rio, Yusleidy Romero Becerra, was detained after conducting the campaign, Cuba Connect, in the center of Roberto Amaran Park. She was detained with her husband by a large State Security operative directed by the second provincial head of counterintelligence in Pinar del Rio. The detention was violent and they were taken to the police unit. There, Yusleidy was surrounded for two hours by various officials of the Ministry of the Interior and State Security. They said that they would not allow any more campaigns in public places and if they did it again, they would be prosecuted.
