Yoel Acosta Gámez is an independent journalist and an activist from the Cuban Patriotic Union (UNPACU). On that day, he was taking testimony and proofs from a family living in the municipality od Bohórquez in Baracoa. When leaving the house, he was intercepted by a Baracoa road patrol and obliged by force to get on the car. One hour later, he was driven to the Parque 24 Unit located in Guantánamo where he was interrogated by the local chief of the Ministry of the Interior. After that he was transported to the Operations Unit where the interrogation and mistreatment went on. Then he was driven a municipality of Imias where he was eventually released. The officials confiscated his phone, video camera and more than 1000 CUP. In the moment of his release, Acosta Gámez did not have any money to be able to get back.
