Yoanny Beltrán Gamboa was going to attend Mass and a protest march in Santuario del Cobre in Santiago de Cuba. These events were conducted to demand the release of political prisoners, the end of politcal repression and civil and human rights for Cubans. At 7:50, he was detained along with other activists on the road to Santiago de Cuba. They were detained by State Security officials Kevin, Sergio and "El Chino", all of them instructed by Major Bryan, Deparment Chief in Guantánamo. Yoanny was put to a patrol car and driven to the police station. After that, he was taken outside the city and left to his fate.
