Public official fired and harassed for reporting irregularities with public funds

The commerce company implemented a cocoa development and promotion project which produced profits of over $75,000 Cuban convertible pesos (€66,650). Without any consultation, these funds were allocated to the reconstruction of the popular power in Baracoa, according to the provincial authorities. The director of the company filed complaints with the municipal, provincial and national prosecutors' offices, but as she was threatened by agents of the Department of State Security (DSE), she filed complaints with the military prosecutor's office, where she was attended to, but has received no response. As a result of these complaints, the director was removed from her job and her family has been besieged. According to the victim, the provincial commercial management closed down the specialized company in Baracoa to silence its bad practices, thus hiding the theft, manipulation and embezzlement of these funds.
