María de las Mercedes was about attend Mass in Santa Rita de Ricci Church as every Sunday. When she was passing through the police checkpoint in Guntánamo, she was detained by State Security officials and police. She was taken to the detention center and was kept there until the Mass finished. She was detained for three hours.
