Activist detained and fined for protesting against provocations of paramilitary groups

Miguel Ángel López Herrera, a human rights defender and a member of the Eastern Democratic Alliance (ADO), was detained in the city center of Guantánamo by State Security (DSE) officials known as Alex, Perrote and another unknown one accompanied by two policemen. He was then taken to the police unit known as Parque 24 where the DSE officials annouced him that he had been detained due to his protest with anti-government slogans which he had carried out few days before the detention. López Herrera then said that it had been just his reaction for a constant provocation from the DSE paramilitary units he had been facing for years without any reaction from the local authorities. He was released at about 11 am with a fine amounting 30 pesos for disruption of order.
