On 22 August, 2020, the coordinator of the Cuban Patriotic Union (UNPACU) in Guantánamo, Bartolo Cantillo Romero, was detained and beaten up along with his wife Celina Osoria Claro. The couple went to the Cadeca exchange office located on the Calixto García Street and Prado in Guantánamo in order to get 300 CUC they received for their work as activists. When they were both leaving the premises, they were attacked by several officials and policemen who stole the money and beat Bartolo when he was resisting. After that, they were both driven to the Police Instruction Unit. The whole action was supported by a patrol car and a jeep of operational guard.
