Activist detained in bus terminal on his way to the Legal Rescue Foundation meeting



At 7:30 am, human rights defender, Eliosbel Garriga Cabreras, was detained in the bus terminal of the province of Pinar del Rio. He came to the terminal in order to attend the monthly meeting of the Legal Rescue Foundation, which took place in the municipality of San Juan y Martínez. State Security officials, Lieutenant Coronel Beune and Captain Juan Pérez, were waiting for him in the terminal. Eliosbel was taken in a car to the municipality of La Coloma. In this place, he was kept in the car until noon of that day and was under the sun, where he experienced heat exhaustion because they could not take him to the police station since it was closed. He was released after five hours with the threat that if he continued, all he would gain would be a jail cell.
