On Monday, 17 February 2020 at 5 am, a house of the human rights defender Yusleidy Romero Becerra was searched by the State Security officials, together with the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) and the Ministry of the Interior (MININT). According to the victim, who is a journalist and a director of the independent media Panorama Pinareño, belonging to the Cuban Institute for Freedom of Press (ICLEP), this action was one of the threats and harassment methods recently used by the State Security against several journalists and managers from ICLEP. In her case, a pretext for the house search was that she had been allegedly storing some beef meet at home. After the thorough search, the officers did not confiscate anything. According to Yusleidy, this was obviously just a pretext to intimidate her since they even did not open the fridge where the meat would have been probably stored.
