The newborn daughter of activist Demis Valdés Saurdy was the victim of negligence in her care by a nurse, which caused her serious health problems. In order to file complaints about this situation, on July 31, activists Valdés Sarduy and Librado Ricardo Linares García met at 9 a.m. in front of the provincial Children's Medical Care Program (PAMI) in the city of Santa Clara. Mr. García was detained in the vicinity of the institution by the head of the Department of Confrontation of the Counter-Revolution known as Erik Francis (Marcos) and returned to his home in Camajuaní with a prohibition to leave for the rest of the day. Mr. Francis then threatened Linares Garcia saying, "you are behaving badly, and it will cost you dearly. In the vicinity of the medical center, where the youngest girl was staying, a large operation was carried out by agents of the Department of State Security (DSE). According to the attackers, 15 other activists were arrested.
