Activist detained on his was to Santiago de Cuba province

An activist Carlos Manuel Veranes Heredia was on his way to Santiago de Cuba province to participate in a march conducted to demand the release of political prisoners and the end of repression against the activists. At 5:40, he was detained at the checkpoint in Cayamo by police officers and State Security officials, all instructed by Lt. Col. Cantilo, chief of the State Security in Caimanera. Carlos Manuel along with other activist started protesting in bus, expressing their disagreement with the detention which had been carried out without any reason or appropriate legal documents. All the activist were driven to the Police Department and threatened with imprisonment. After several hours they were released.
