An activist from Camagüey detained, beaten and threatened by police



Geovanis Cepúlveda Martínez, an activist from the Eastern Democratic Alliance (ADO), was detained in the Plaza de Gallo District in Camagüey by two police patrol officers. During the detention, he was beaten up and then taken to the police unit in Avellaneda. There he was threatened with persecution if he continued with his political activism and complaints against the regime. The officials also mentioned his support to the San Isidro Movement which was being watched by the police. Then they fined him 30 pesos for an alleged crime of disturbance of order and issued him an official warning which Geovanis refused to sign. After that he was released.
