Hugo Damián Prieto Blanco arrested and beaten, his information storage devices were confiscated



On 3rd December, 2018, who identifies himself as the major Dominic, an official of the State Security Department (DSE) accompanied by several officers of that entity, as well as by the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) and the delegate of the Popular Power as the only witness, went to the home of the activist Hugo Damian Prieto Blanco to conduct a search. According to the victim, the proceeding was in retaliation for the peaceful protest that took place on the grounds of the National Assembly, in which he participated along with several members of the Orlando Zapata Tamayo Civic Action Front, which he presides. During the search, were confiscated three Canon cameras, two hard disks of 1 terabyte (1000 GB) each, a case with approximately 7 or 8 flash drives, a packet of proclamations, three packets of CDs full of information hidden by the official press to be given to the population, and three posters and three sheets with human rights proclamations. The State agents did not leave a copy of the search warrant or the occupancy certificate with the requisitioned belongings as required by the Criminal Procedure Act. The activist was arrested and days later he was beaten up by the police from the Vivac, the detention centre where he is held.
