Journalist detained nad threatened by political police when heading to cover a protest



On 24 February 2021, Vladimir Turro Pérez, an independent journalist from La Habana Province, was again arrested on the street by the crew of a police patrol. He was then taken to the police unit in the municipality of La Lisa. Turro Pérez was on his way to the Old Havana in order to cover a protest by a group of catholic youth which was about to hang a banner between two buildings, asking for the release of political prisoners. He was interrogated by political police and threatened with a fine amounting up to 15 million pesos for an alleged “illegal economic activity”.
