UNPACU activist from Guantánamo threatened with imprisonment

In the morning, 3 February 2020, a human rights defender and a member of the Cuban Patriotic Union (UNPACU), Henry Couto Guzmán, was summoned to the State Security detention center in Guantánamo. When he arrived, he was received by oficial Yoendry Áreas who threatened him with imprisonment for being in touch with criminals. "If a poster appears in the city or a statue of José Martí of any other high official is sprayed or dammaged, it is on you", told him the official known for beating human rights defenders and activists in the Eastern part of the country. The victim replied that he had nothing to do with that. The official replied in a threatening tone: "Look at your boss José Daniel Ferrer, how easily we put him in jail. We will do the same to you and you do not have anybody to defend you." The victim was released after having spent 5 hours in the detention center.
