Yoel was attending a public protest organized by the Cuban Revolutionary Party against low wages, high food prices, the politicization of education in Cuba etc. A few minutes after the beginning of the protest, all participants were detained by the political police accompanied by the law and order police. About 10 soldiers arrived in a small bus and, as if they were hunting bandits, they pushed them, twisting their arms and then handcuffing them. After that, he and the other protesters were driven to the police station by bus. Inside the bus, they were offended and threatened that at the police station they would find out what was good (just an ironic commentary that demonstrated the opposite). At the police station, he and the others were dragged to the dungeon, where they were beaten. They had to stay there for several hours until they were called one by one for the interrogation and then they were released.
