Excluded from participation in popular consultation



On Thursday the 5th of October, 2018, Lázaro Luis Ruiz Echevarría, who is a defender of human rights and representative of the Cuban Observatory of Human Rights in Pinar del Río, was summoned to show up at 1:00 p.m. in the sector of the Unit of the National Revolutionary Police. There, waiting for him was the Captain of the State security who called himself Javier. The reason why of such summoning was to warn him that he could go to prison because he was helping the enemy and that he was committing the crime of espionage since he was providing information about the situation in Cuba to foreign organizations. Moreover, he was warned that he could not participate in popular consultation about the project of the Constitution that would take place the next day in his community and that otherwise would be detained. The interrogation lasted approximately two hours.
