An activist Delvis Estrada Figuerola was going to Santiago de Cuba to participate in a march which was being conducted to demand the release of political prisoners and to end the repression against activists from various opposition movements. At 5:40, he was detained at the checkpoint in Cayamo by police and State Security officials, all of them following orders issued by Lt. Col. Cantillo, the Chief of State Security in Caimanera. Delvis, along with other activists, started protesting in the bus and expressed an opinion that the detention was carried out without any reason and legal documents. The detention turned violent and all activists were driven to the Police Department, where they were threatened with imprisonment. They were released few hours later.
