The UNPACU activist from Baracoa was verbally abused by local CDR representatives on Human Rights Day.

On December 10, 2020 in the afternoon, the activist of the Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU) Aidé Galván Casal was verbally abused by the president of the Committee for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR) of the neighborhood where Aidé lives, Marta Jiménez Campo and the security chief Julián Ruiz Rojas. These people, on orders of State Security, confronted the activist when she came outside her house to put up a sign that read: "Long live human rights!" When they saw the activist putting up the sign, they stopped in front of her house and shouted expletives. The activist came out and told them that also the government was celebrating 10th of December as it is recognized worldwide as International Human Rights Day. She also told them that she could put on the walls of her house whatever she liked. State Security uses people to organize acts of repudiation against human rights activists when they carry out acts of disobedience or peaceful protest. These acts violate article # 5 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by not allowing the Cuban population and civil society to celebrate dates like these without fear of being attacked. Article # 5 of the aforementioned declaration states that no one shall be subjected to torture or cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment. These people, on orders from State Security, tried to humiliate and intimidate activist Aidé Galván Casal. This activist, despite her age, has always stood firm to her principles and always maintained her struggle against the dictatorship. This position has brought the cruelty of State Security to her and also to her children and grandchildren, who have had to serve long prison terms for crimes they have not committed.
