UNPACU activist from Baracoa is persecuted and threatened by State Security on Human Rights Day.

On December 10, 2020 at 7:35 AM, the activist of the Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU) Lariné Rodríguez Delgado was the victim of persecution and threats by the captain of State Security Neurí Durán Paján. This officer chased the activist to the school where she works and a few blocks before arriving, he stopped her and told her that they were watching her in case she tried to carry out any act of public disorder, she was quickly going to be arrested. The activist told him that she believes that he represents a government that lies to its people because it was officially promoting the celebration of the International day of Human Rights but on the other hand it was repressing people who thought differently, and did not allow common people to celebrate that day as everyone would like. The regime does not tolerate or allow other people but those officially deployed to organise and commemorate this day because, according to them, whoever does it without their permission, commits a crime of public disorder and disobedience. The Cuban government violates Article # 1 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The regime also violates Article # 5 where it states that no one will be subjected to torture or cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment. Moreover, the Convention against Torture and Other Inhuman and Degrading Treatment or Punishment, describes as torture, among others, the following behaviour: Any act by which a person is intentionally inflicted serious pain or suffering, whether physical or mental, in order to intimidate or coerce that person or others, or for any reason based on any type of discrimination, when said pain or suffering is inflicted by a public official or another person in the exercise of their public functions, at their instigation or with their consent or acquiescence.
