On February 28, 2016, Alejandro Riquene Coy was traveling to Santiago de Cuba to attend Sunday Mass in the Santuario del Cobre. The Mass was carried out in order to support the Ladies in White organization and Todos Marchamos campaign which calls for freedom for political prisoners. At 6 am, Alejandro was detained by Lt. Col. Cantillo, a secret police chief Major Montalvo, a State Security official and the National Revolutionary Police. He was driven to the Police Department in Caimanera and released at 12 pm.
