On October 7, 2017, at 10:00 am, the human rights defender Eliosbel Garriga Cabrera, delegate of the "Juan Gualberto Gómez" Racial Movement in the province of Pinar del Rio, was going to the home of a work colleague. On the way, he was intercepted on Calle 1 de Mayo (May 1st Street), in front of the Ministry of the Interior warehouses by the State Security officer Captain Juan Pérez. He stopped him and made a personal search of him, thinking that he was carrying bulletins from the Cuban Institute for Freedom of Expression (ICLE) to distribute to the population. Seeing that he had nothing, Eliosbel was threatened that he was going to be imprisoned for publishing information that affected the revolution. After more than twenty minutes of being detained under repression and threats, he let him continue, keeping in mind the warning that he was being watched and would take him to prison.
