On 7 June, 2019, at 2 pm, human rights defender Lázaro Luis Ruiz Echevarría went to the police station in the municipality of Pinar del Río. The day before, State Security official Captain Otoniel appeared at the activist's house in order to personally summoned him to the police station, under the threat that it is now the time to account for his behaviour. During the interrogation, the officer warned the defender, that he is under surveillance and he should think twice what he does. He also added that since the country undergoes a crisis, any activity can be interpreted as counter-revolutionary and could bring him to prison. And in his case, as he had been already prosecuted, it would not be difficult. One hour later he was released. He was warned to give up all his activities and to take this interrogation as an preventive alert to avoid any surprises later on.
