September 1, 2015 at 5:00 pm, the human rights activist Irina Caridad León Valladares entered peacefully in the Catholic church San Rosendo in Pinar del Río. She said she was going to stay there until the Pope arrived on 19 September to Cuba. This caused that the priest called the police which effected an operation in the early morning (1:00 am). Specialised troop police took her out of the church and led a research center where she was processed. Police described the event as an assault on a religious center which could cost him jail. In the end she was warned and threatened being released nine hours later on the periphery of the city of Pinar del Río.
