September 1, 2015 at 5:00 pm, the human rights activist Michael Valladares Cala entered peacefully in the Catholic church San Rosendo in Pinar del Río. He said he was going to stay there until the Pope arrived on 19 September to Cuba. This caused that the priest called the police which effected an operation in the early morning (1:00 am). Specialised troop police took him out of the church and led a research center where he was processed. Police described the event as an assault on a religious center which could cost him jail. In the end he was warned and threatened being released nine hours later on the periphery of the city of Pinar del Río.
