On December 6, 2015, an activist Ramón Olivares Abelló was going to Santiago de Cuba to attend Mass in the Santuario del Cobre, when he was suddenly attacked in Camilo Cienfuegos Avenue and San Gregorio Street by Anti-Riot Police, National Revolutionary Police and the State Security officials. He was beaten up and taken to one of the State Security units and later to the Police Department. He was released at 7 pm and he had to go to the hospital. However, he was not admitted. This was denounced on Radio Martí.
